HSI Code of Conduct
As a member of the staff or volunteers of Horizon
Services, Inc., I am committed to providing the highest quality of prevention
and recovery services for individuals, families and communities. I will assist
in creating an enviroment that is appropriately supportive for all.
To this end, I will maintain solely professional relationships
with all participants and community members.
I will not have any relationships
with a former residential program participant in the program(s) in which I am
associated for two years after the participant ceases receiving services.
I will
maintain a solely professional relationship with non-residential program participants
who I have counseled either individually or as part of a group.
I will not have any relationships
with a former non - residential program participant who I have counseled either
individually or as part of a group for two years after the participant ceases
receiving services.
As a professional I will not borrow or lend money or buy or sell property to program participants.
I will not rent to
or share an apartment or home with a program participant.
I will not socialize
with any individuals in a manner that can be construed as romantic or sexual.
I will not sponsor any participant in a 12-Step or self help group sponsorship.
I will not accept cash gifts or accept gifts with a value over $15.00.
As trainee, intern or a licensed professional I will uphold
all the Code of Ethics required by my license including child/elder care reporting
requirements. As a staff member or volunteer I will uphold Horizon Services, Inc.
(HSI) Statement of Responsibility.
I will keep HSI participants right to confidentiality
as provided for in Title 42, Code of Federal Regulations, Part 2.
I will keep
(HSI) business information confidential.
I will not use, possess, distribute, dispense, sell, or
manufacture alcohol or illegal drugs while on HSI premises or while conducting
HSI business or participating in any agency sponsored event. In addition, I will
not be under the influence of alcohol, illegal drugs or prescription drugs being
used illegally while on HSI premises or while conducting HSI business or participating
in any agency sponsored event. “Under the influence” means any measurable
amount of drugs or alcohol present. I will not use inappropriate references to
the use of alcohol or drugs during working hours nor in the presence of program
participants or community members.
I will abide by Civil Code 51.9 that prohibits any form
of sexual harassment where there is a business, service or professional relationship.
I will not discriminate against a client, potential client or community member
because of race, color, religion, sex, national origin, age, mental and physical
disability, marital status, sexual orientation, gender identification, medical
condition, citizenship, ancestry or veteran status.
I will be a positive role model of sobriety and good citizenship and avoid conduct
which is unprofessional or potentially embarrassing to HSI.
I will, when in doubt about any of the above, discuss the issue with my supervisor
before engaging in any behavior where I am unclear regarding the acceptability
of that behavior.
I will accept responsibility for my continuing education and professional development
as part of my commitment to providing quality service.
